A self-described Georgia Peach through and through, Diane Hingson, our new neighbor in Unit #1715, is a native of Valdosta, Georgia, where she attended Valdosta State University. Of course, as a true native Georgia girl, Diane said she is an all-out Georgia Bulldogs fan; proof is in her Bulldog flag and front door wreath.
Diane met her husband, Larry, in South Florida, where they lived for 35 years. They lived for many years in Bonita Springs, South of Fort Meyers. In 2007, when he retired from his career as an electrical contractor, they moved to the Florida Panhandle. While in Bonita Springs, she worked as a bookkeeper for Lee County schools monitoring federal funding programs and grants. She started out working in schools, which she really liked because of being near the children, but then moved on to the school district administrative offices which oversaw all of the 84 schools in the district. In the Panhandle, she worked as a bookkeeper for Washington County School District, a small, very rural school district made up of only six schools.
In 2016, Larry became ill, and she retired to care for him. After he passed, she chose not to make any significant decisions for a period of time and waited until 2018 to move to Bethlehem, NC. She wanted to be near a son in Bethlehem, a developer, and a son in Hickory, a building contractor. Her third son, is a minister in Florida. Her family is very important to her, especially her eight grandchildren who she says are amazing.
When asked about her interests and hobbies, she said they include reading and sewing. And, although not a fan of flying, she does like to travel. A favorite is an annual Christmas trip to New York City to see the Rockettes perform. Tennessee and Kentucky are two of her favorite states for vacations. Other trips have included New England, Canada, and Niagara Falls. Her future dream trips would be to Ireland and Alaska.
Like many of us, she has always lived in a single-family home, so living in a townhome is a new experience. However, she has found her new neighbors to be friendly and welcoming, so is looking forward to living here with us.
Diane, we are glad that you are here!
