Coyotes have been seen in Huntington Woods.
According to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, this is not a cause for alarm. Attacks on people, including children, are very rare. Normal coyote behavior is to be curious, but wary.
Frequent sightings mean we should take steps to prevent conflicts for it and other wildlife.
- Don’t feed or try to pet it. If it loses its natural wariness of people, it may become bold and aggressive.
- Protect pets by keeping indoors and leashed when outdoors.
- Feed pets indoors or remove food when your pet is finished.
- Keep bird feeder areas clean so as not to attract small rodents that coyotes will see as a food source.
- Don’t be intimidated by a coyote. Maintain its wariness by throwing a small object such as a tennis ball, a loud noise or spraying water at it.
