Notes from the HOA President – December

How Your HOA Board Serves Huntington Woods

For many in our community, the day-to-day work of the HOA Board remains largely unseen. That is understandable—unless you have served on the Board yourself, it may be difficult to appreciate the hours of planning, oversight, and conversation that go into keeping Huntington Woods the safe, welcoming, and highly valued neighborhood we enjoy.

Our Board is made up of homeowners who live right here among us. Each one volunteers time and energy every month to help guide the affairs of the community. They meet once a month to review needs, plan projects that preserve the quality of our neighborhood, and consider requests from residents. Four of these meetings—January, April, July, and October—are open to all who live in Huntington Woods, with the January meeting serving as the Annual Meeting.

To support clear communication and easy access to information, the Board maintains this comprehensive website. You will find forms needed for interactions with the HOA:

  • A full list of Board members with phone numbers and email addresses
  • Governing documents, policies, rules, and resolutions
  • The Resident Handbook
  • Repair and Maintenance guidelines

These documents are essential resources for every homeowner. Reviewing them—and completing the appropriate forms when making any request—helps ensure that communication with the Board remains smooth, accurate, and timely.

Each year, the Board prepares a budget based on the Association’s income from dues. This budget reflects careful planning for the needs of the community, including roof replacements, landscaping, renovation, and structural maintenance. Roof replacements follow a long-range plan that considers the expected lifespan of each roof, while repairs are made whenever leaks or damage occur. While the Board plans as thoroughly as possible, emergencies do arise. When they do, urgent needs must take priority, and patience is deeply appreciated. Financial statements are available to any member upon request. Transparency is a cornerstone of the Board’s service, and they work diligently to keep the community informed and confident in how funds are stewarded.

Serving on the Board is both an honor and a weighty responsibility. At times, the Board must make decisions that benefit the whole neighborhood, even when those decisions may be difficult for individual members. It is vital to remember that every decision is guided by what best preserves Huntington Woods. The Board consistently seeks a win-win path and is careful to remain within the boundaries set by our bylaws, covenants, conditions, and restrictions. These guardrails ensure that any action taken serves the long-term good of the entire community.

Because our neighborhood combines shared beauty with individual character, complete freedom to alter one’s property is not always possible. Still, when each homeowner understands and applies the wisdom behind our community standards, we preserve the charm that drew us here in the first place.

One of the greatest blessings of Huntington Woods is its natural setting. Yet with our beautiful trees comes the challenge of responsible care. Each year, the Board hires certified arborists to evaluate the health of our trees. The goal is always to preserve them. Healthy trees are never removed unnecessarily, though trimming is some-times essential. Protecting the natural landscape safeguards both the character of Huntington Woods and the long-term value of our homes.

Thank you for your steady support of the Board and your shared commitment to making Huntington Woods a community marked by beauty, peace, and neighborly care. Each year, new Board members are needed to continue this important work. If you have an interest in serving, we invite you to consider offering your time and gifts for the good of all by asking to have your name placed in nomination.

Together, we can ensure that Huntington Woods remains a place we are proud to call home—not only today, but for the generations who will follow.
