Notes from the Board – September

SWIMMING POOL
Plans are to close the pool for the season the middle of September; however, it is a bit weather dependent.

FINANCIALS
If you received a past due notice from Cedar Management regarding your monthly association dues, do not be alarmed. Due to a few glitches in the system, some statements were sent out in error. However, on the positive side, by individuals receiving these notices you have helped us identify problems that we were unaware of during the transition of management companies.
Please note, those who set up their personal Vine account can go online, make payments, set them up to draft automatically each month and track their payments in real time. Also, payments are received and applied more quickly by Cedar.
As we know, our payments are due the first of each month. If you are mailing your payments you need to factor in that mailing time and personal posting times are all factors in when your payment will appear on your statement. If you send in checks late in
the month, they could easily appear to be be late. Kaye Owenby and I are working to resolve any concerns and discrepancies in this area. If you have questions concerning your account, feel free to let either of us know.
One last reminder, for the remainder of 2023, our monthly association fees are $223.00.
Joan Long, Treasurer

ARCHITECTURE
We have almost completed work on decks for Units 1712 and 1713 and should be finished by the middle of next week.
There are safety issues with the retaining wall between Units 1711 and 1712 that will require attention.
Pressure washing will begin on Building 9 on Labor Day, September 4.
Skylights for Unit 1719 have arrived and will be installed during cooler weather.
A water issue at Unit 1752 is being taken care of.
The needed clean-up of a common area is also being addressed.
Larry Miller, Architecture Chair

LANDSCAPING
Our tree company has been delayed by all the storm damage from several weeks ago. Hopefully by the time you read this, they will have been here and trimmed up some of our trees. Fall is just around the corner and leaves will begin falling. The landscapers will try to keep the leaves compacted in piles awaiting the City pickup, but we are last on the city pickup list, so please be patient.

Welcome to our new Neighbors!

Anne Cecil-Slusher, in Unit #1773, is happily living in Huntington Woods between pursuing her favorite pastimes of hiking, birding, photography, and travel to interesting places.
As she settles into getting acquainted as our neighbor in her new home, she is also exploring the hiking in local parks, such as Geitner and River Bend.
In October, her latest travel plans will include travel to the mountainous area of North West England to hike in the Lake District National Park for one month.
The southern island of New Zealand was a past destination, where for two weeks, Anne traveled and camped the circumference of the island. As she and her companions
traveled, they could just pull off the road and sleep at night. A highlight of the trip was meeting the indigenousness people, the Maori of New Zealand. Other highlights were
the glaciers they saw and the yellow eyed penguins.
Anne is from a family of teachers, so it isn’t surprising that she majored in early childhood education and French in college. While in college she began her travels when
she spent her junior college year studying in Paris. Through her studies, she spent time in the Louvre Museum where she was fortunately able to closely study masterpieces such
as the Mona Lisa.
For two years following college graduation, Anne taught kindergarten in Nicaragua at a bilingual school. She returned home to the States for safety when Nicaragua began a civil
war.
Anne grew up in Holland, Michigan and upon her return from Nicaragua, she made her home in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she raised her family, and for about twelve years, owned an office supply business with her husband.
More recently, before her retirement, she worked for fifteen years for Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores as an Admin Support Manager. As a Lowe’s employee she spent time in Michigan, Arkansas, California and New Orleans, Louisiana.
Since her retirement, she has returned to education and has on occasion done substitute teaching.
Anne has three children, a daughter in Thailand, a son here, and a daughter in Michigan, who is the mother of Anne’s two grandchildren.
Prior to Hickory, Anne lived for one year in Asheville, but found it too busy.

We are happy that our community is a better fit and welcome Anne and her aptly named cat, Kitten.

Important Notice!

As a safety precaution, the HOA Board has voted on and passed a Resolution to
NOT allow firepits in our community. Our buildings are wooden and would easily catch fire if an ember floated up to the buildings.

A REMINDER
Also, when using grills, be mindful of how close they are to the building. Never
use a grill right up next to your unit.

Notes from the President – September 2023

Hello Neighbors,
The HOA Board welcomes our new neighbors who have joined our community this summer. We are glad you are here and invite you to contact us if you have any questions.
You will find a Board contact list in this newsletter. Your HOA Board members are volunteers who have agreed to serve three year terms of office. There will be a number of board positions open to be filled at the coming January, 2024 annual meeting. We invite all members of the community to consider running for election for those vacant positions.
We are now several months into working with our new management company, Cedar Management Group, and the remaining transition issues from the previous company are being smoothed out. If you have not done so, please consider going online to
the Cedar Management website and registering in our HOA Vine account. Through this account, homeowners can do the following:

  • Make online HOA dues payments
  • Submit maintenance requests
