Notes from the HOA President – June 2022

Happy Memorial Day, Huntington Woods Community!

Neighbor Associations Bring Communities Together, was the title of the article in the Hickory City Snippets this month and I found the words worth repeating. Just as the city has been a liaison for the citizens in community areas around Hickory, such as Highland, Kenworth, and Ridgeview to help answer questions and provide information to the citizens about changes, improvements, events, or projects, the Huntington Woods HOA performs the same for you, our residents. Our HOA meetings are a great way to stay engaged and informed about our community. We cover topics that make Huntington Woods a great place to live and what the costs are associated with those comforts, all the while keeping things fiscally responsible to maintain the beautiful surroundings. The executive board meetings are monthly, but the open community board meetings are quarterly. We hope to have the meeting at the gazebo and encourage all of you to attend, ask questions, give suggestions, and put your hat in to join the board! You have great suggestions, share them! As the weekend approaches and you gather with family, as I am for the first time in 3 years, let’s take a moment to reflect the meaning of Memorial Day. The national holiday honoring the men and women who have died while serving in the US military. Each Memorial Day, there is a nationwide moment of silence at 3:00 p.m.local time, let’s set a reminder to observe their ultimate sacrifice. Whether you are active or a veteran of the military or have a family member who is military-related, we salute you and most of all “thank you” for your service.

Warm regards,

Sabina

Around the Neighborhood – July 2022

Have you visited the Huntington Woodsgazebo recently? Seating and new seat pads and pillows have been added, thanks to Kaye Owenby and a group of generous residents donating funds. The gazebo, a lovely Huntington Woods landmark, was built by Mike Owenby with the help of his assistant, John Barlow. Take a little time to enjoy sitting in the gazebo to enjoy the sounds of nature, the fresh air, and maybe a chat with a neighbor. An additional thank you must go to Kaye Owenby, Landscaping Chair, for all of the hands-on gardening and landscaping work that she does in our community. I frequently see her out and about accomplishing landscaping projects rather than hiring someone. Your work is appreciated Kaye!

Landscaping Notes

The Landscapers have started pruning shrubbery and will be working on this during the next month. After the weed and feed application, the grass became so green. Due to lack of rain it was turning brown again, but the recent much-needed rain has turned it green once more. Please remember to place only sticks and limbs beside the dumpster. All clipping must be bagged in clear plastic bags or clipping must be thrown in dumpsters. Thank you.

Our New Neighbor – June 2022

Toni Lefler, our new neighbor in #1764, was a native of Ohio until she was three years old, when she moved to Lake Worth, Florida with her parents and six-month-old brother. The family moved to Florida so that her father, a painter and paperhanger, and her mother, a surgical nurse, could pursue work. Toni attended Catholic schools from kindergarten through high school graduation in Lake Worth and is ncm a student of Metaphysics. She came to our community from Palm Beach Gardens along the east coast about 80 miles north of Miami.

She studied marketing in college, which led her lo a career of marketing and sales. As a person who enjoys meeting people and being out and about, she liked her work.

It was in 1992 that Toni made the jump from working for someone else and turned entrepreneur because she realized that her knack for organizing could become a business. She had been organizing her drawers, closets. and rooms since she was a child, and when she moved into her own apartment her friends kidded her about how nothing was ever out of order. Through her new business she organized for individuals as well as businesses. Before long she added to her skills via a class given by a woman who taught a Visual Coordination course.

With these new skills, when working with her clients, she was able to utilize their existing furnishings and accessories to compliment their architecture and enhance their lifestyle. Additionally, she was able to add clients who needed to stage their homes for sale, those moving into a new home and seniors downsizing or people going through a life change. One of the goals being that no one needed to buy anything new.

In 2000, she heard of the words Feng Shui, the ancient art of placement meaning wind and water. Toni located a teacher in the art in Los Angeles and began to study with her. She extended her studies in Feng Shui and began teaching it herself and working with clients. Through Zoom, she is currently successfully working with both former and new clients offering organizing, room makeovers, home staging and Feng Shui consultations. She is a contributing author for the book, Contemporary Earth Designs: A Feng Shui Anthology. 50 Best Staging Tips to Sell your Home is available as a freeeBook on her website: http://www.ToniDeziqn.oom.

It was also in 2000 that Toni was given an unusual and exciting invitation to travel through Egypt. The leader of a tour asked her to serve as an assistant for the two week trip.

For her, it was an extraordinary opportunity to visit a country filled with ancient history, as the trip included touring the Great Pyramid and traveling up the Nile River.

Sadly during that time, her mother was ill with mul tiple sclerosis. Fortunately, as her health declined, Toni was able to be there for her as her primary health care manager and often as the hands-on care giver.

Toni’s hobbies and interests include: organizing and beautifying her home, reading, really good movies, gardening and walking. EspeciaUy important to her has been time with friends combined with entertaining and the exploring of new foods.

Callie and Sophie are the most recent rescue cats that Toni has adopted. The three of them began their life together Thanksgiving weekend in 2011.

Evidently Callie and Sophie were not in the least bit happy about the long trip to their new home and the move into it. But are now adjusting well to being in Huntington Woods.

We are happy to welcome all in the Lefler house hold to our community.
