Yard Maintenance Enforcement Beginning Next Month
Dear Neighbors,
As many of you know, our community guidelines include specific rules about the number of items permitted in yards — both front and back. Over time, enforcement of this guideline has lapsed, and as a result, many yards throughout the neighborhood are no longer in compliance.
Starting next month, I will personally be walking the neighborhood to review yards against our current guidelines. Where a yard is found to be out of compliance, you will receive a notice identifying the specific items that need to be addressed and a reasonable timeframe to bring things back into line.
I want to be upfront: this is not a task I take on with any enthusiasm. Many of us have let things accumulate over the years for entirely understandable reasons — kids’ outdoor toys, gardening projects, storage overflow, and so on. But our guidelines exist to help maintain the appearance and property values of our community, and it’s only fair that we apply them consistently to everyone rather than selectively or not at all.
A few things I want to emphasize:
- This isn’t personal. I’ll be applying the same standard to my own yard as to everyone else’s.
- You’ll have time to correct issues. Notices will include a reasonable window to address any items flagged, not an immediate demand.
- If you’re unsure what counts as an “item” under our guidelines, please reach out to me or the board ahead of time so we can clarify before you receive a notice.
- If you have circumstances that make compliance difficult (health, mobility, a specific ongoing project), let us know — we’d rather work with you than simply issue notices.
I appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to get our neighborhood back in line with the standards we all agreed to when we moved in. If you have questions about the specific guidelines regarding yard items, go to: https://huntington-woods-hoa.com/documents/
Thank you for your patience as we tackle this.
Warmly, Sabina Hardy HOA President
