Let’s all keep Ingrid and Eric Peake in our prayers as they try to recover from the devastating fire on the night before Thanksgiving. Eric is in serious condition at the burn center in Winston Salem. He suffered from smoke inhalation and both arms were burned, and as I understand it, they will be doing skin grafts to his left arm. Ingrid is staying in a local hotel.
We are very appreciative of the fire department and their quick response. Additionally, our townhomes were built with a strong fire wall between the units. This helped prevent the fire from spreading to the unit next door.
Huntington Woods is a townhome community, not a condominium (condo) community, so everyone should check their insurance policies to be sure their unit is insured as a townhome. As townhome owners, we own our structure inside and out, including the roof. Condo owners only own the interior of their units.
Your homeowner’s insurance should have replacement coverage for the entire structure such as H03 Coverage. If you have questions, your insurance agent will be able to pro-vide more information. The HOA only carries liability insurance on the common grounds. Your can reference this in the Decla-ration of Conditions and Restrictions (CRR) under Article IX, Insurance, page 16.
Effective January 1, we will change to our new management company, Thornburg & Associates, in Hickory. Cedar Management did a great job, but due to changes in their regulations outside of our original contract, we opted to move back to a local company. We anticipate a smooth transition from Cedar to Thornburg.
Please send your December HOA dues to Cedar and then beginning on January 1, send them to Thornburg & Associates, PO Box 3443, Hickory, NC 28603. Make checks payable to Huntington Woods and reference your unit number on the check.
